CORONAVIRUS UPDATES February 6th

February 6, 2020ITN

We would like to share new updates as of February 6th and a more detailed schedule for the different regions in China and parties in the supply chain, as advised by our partners.

Coronavirus

 AIRFREIGHT

  • As advised in our previous update, several airlines cancelled their flights to China. The shippers needing the latest airline information regarding flights to China can now use cargo.one’s website https://www.cargo.one/operating-status.
  • See list of airlines that have restricted travel to China in an article from BNN Bloomberg.

OCEANFREIGHT

  • Few carriers have announced blank sailings into some of the Chinese ports to adjust their capacity to the reduced demand following the extended closures;
  • We have received reports of operations are slowing down at Chinese ports and shipyards due to a lack of stevedores and truck drivers causing slower vessel turnaround times;
  • Chinese ports have announced they will waive their storage charges for loaded containers during the period between January 24 and February 9.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Further blank sailings and reduced air capacity;
  • Peak demand and space shortages as factories will reopen.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHINA SUPPLY CHAIN PLANNING

  • Identify urgent orders for the following months;
  • Check with your suppliers as they reopen the factories on revised cargo readiness and shipping schedules;
  • Communicate with your ITN Sales and CSR teams for updates on your shipping arrangements.

We will continue to monitor and provide further updates as received.
